(SANDUSKY) – On Thursday August 13, 2020 at approximately 9:55pm the Sandusky Police Department was investigating a possible non-compliant Registered Sex Offender selling illegal narcotics in the 100 block of Custer Street.
(Michigan law usually requires convicted sex offenders to register their address with the State except for a Covid-19 ruling on April 6, 2020 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan not allowing police to enforce, track or hold sex offenders accountable for failing to register their address.)
The authorized occupant was contacted and was uncooperative with the officer.
The officer left but remained nearby and then located the suspect attempting to leave the residence.
Upon further investigation and a consented search of the suspect, he was found in possession of heroin, methamphetamine, and inositol (a powdered cutting agent).
Another consented search was then completed for the residence and other drug paraphernalia was seized.
The suspect, a 35 year old Lapeer man was arrested and taken to the Sanilac County Jail where he remains being held with a $75,000 bond.
In a little over the last two weeks the Sandusky Police Department has investigated 3 separate incidents involving the seizure of methamphetamine with in the city limits.
The Sandusky Police Department was assisted with these investigations by the Sanilac County Drug Task Force.
