Huron County authorities and the Michigan State Police responded to a situation Monday afternoon that ended up leaving a man in the hospital before further detainment.

According to Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson, deputies responded to a home in Caseville around 2:30 regarding a 55-year old male family member from Bay City attempting to take his own life with a utility knife.

Hanson said further information was received that the man was under the influence of methamphetamine and out of control.

When Deputies arrived and tried to calm the man with the knife to his throat outside of that residence, he fled on foot.

A foot pursuit then led the man and law enforcement through backyards and other areas of Caseville and Caseville Township before he was finally taken into custody in Caseville.

Sheriff Hanson said the man continued to threaten suicide, unable to be controlled and once again with the knife up to his throat.

He was clearly an immediate safety risk to himself and the Deputies and the Sheriff said the incident ended with the man being tased.

The man was then taken to Scheurer Hospital by Scheurer Ambulance for treatment and psychiatric evaluation.

Other officers responding were from the Michigan State Police and Michigan DNR Conservation Officer.
