Saturday, August 6, saw a trio of major traffic crashes across Sanilac County.
A multiple vehicle crash in Forester Township on Saturday afternoon left two dead and several others injured. Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a flurry of calls around 1:19 p.m. on August 6, regarding a traffic crash involving a motorcycle on M-25, near Stone Road. Sheriff deputies were joined at the scene by the Port Sanilac and Delaware Township Fire Departments, Sanilac EMS and Croswell EMS to find the accident actually involved four motorcycles and one passenger vehicle.
Those injured were transported to multiple area hospitals for treatment, with one motorcycle driver dying at the scene and another passing away due to his injuries at McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital following helicopter transport. Names, ages and related details have not been released due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Last Saturday saw another accident reported to Sanilac County Dispatch, this time at 4:18 p.m. and on Babcock Road, south of Mortimer Line Road in Worth Township. Lexington Fire, Croswell EMS, and the Croswell and Lexington Police Departments joined deputies at the scene to find a 72-year-old man and his 61-year-old male passenger in the road’s each ditch.
It was determined that the 72-year-old driver was traveling north in his 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee when his vehicle left Babcock road, entering the ditch and striking a tree. Both men were transported to McLaren Port Huron Hospital for treatment of injuries. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
The last accident in Saturday’s traffic trio was reported around 5:15 p.m. and involved a personal injury crash of a motorcycle on Clifford Road in Marlette Township. Deputies were dispatched to the scene at the intersection of M-53, being joined at the scene by Marlette Police and Fire Departments, and Marlette EMS.
Investigation found that a 68-year-old man was driving his 2016 Yamaha motorcycle on M-53 when he attempted a westbound turn onto Clifford Road when he hit loose gravel, losing control and separating from the motorcycle. The man was treated by EMS at the scene and released.
