A former Port Huron High School teacher arrested in December for third-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct pleaded guilty on Monday to one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct by force of coercion.
Carrick Thomas Brennan, age 28, will be sentenced on April 10 by St. Clair County Judge Cynthia Lane, having pleaded at his February 27 pretrial hearing.
The case started last year, when a 16-year-old Marysville teenager informed the school resource officer on December 19, 2022 that Brennan had inappropriately approached her. Following investigation by the school resource officer, as well as investigation by the school’s administration, Brennan was removed from the classroom that same day.
The Port Huron Police Department’s Major Crime Unit prepared and executed a search warrant at an Aspen Drive home shortly after, with Brennan being held on a $25,000 bond following his December arraignment, with that bond still active now.
Port Huron Schools superintendent Theo Kerhoulas assured parents in a December letter home that the teacher is on administrative leave and barred from all school district premises and from speaking with staff or students. He later confirmed that Brennan is no longer employed at the school.
Brennan faces up to two years in prison, and/or a $500 fine, as well as appearing in the sex offenders registry for 25 years, to be verified twice a year.
