Lapeer Sheriff’s Office rules 8-year-old’s Tuesday drowning a “tragic accident”

The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office believes that it was an accident that claimed the life of an eight-year-old found in a pond in Marathon Township.

Authorities report that it was shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, when the sheriff’s office was dispatched to the scene at a Pyles Road home, receiving reports that the child was not breathing after having been found submerged in a nearby pond.

Despite the diligent efforts by Marathon First Responders and Lapeer County EMS, the child was pronounced dead at McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital.

Officials extended condolences to the family, writing in their Wednesday press release that the incident appears to have been a tragic accident.
