After twelve years, Michigan State Police might have a break in a Lapeer County murder case, asking the public of Utah to keep an eye out for their person of interest.
42-year-old Chadwick Shane Mobley, described as a 6’0” white male with blue eyes and blonde hair, has been identified as a person of interest in a homicide investigation.
Michigan State Police reached out to the Utah State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) around June 13, asking them to assist in a homicide investigation for an incident that occurred in 2011 in Michigan, as Mobley was last seen in Utah. According to Lapeer County District Court records, police pursued a warrant on Thursday, June 8, a day after Mobley was last seen in Corrine, Utah. District Magistrate Maureen Flanigan Salayko authorized the warrant.
State Police revealed to MLive Thursday that Mobley’s DNA was matched to him via familial genealogy after the DNA found on the evidence from the November 2011 death of 20-year-old Andrea Eilber. While surveillance of the man is alleged to have begun in February, it was not until June 20 that charges were officially filed. Mobley is charged with one count of first degree felony murder, one count of first degree premeditated murder, and one felony gun charge.
20-year-old Andrea had been found on November 16, 2011 in her aunt and uncle’s basement, having been bound and shot dead by a single gunshot to the head two days prior. She had been alone in the Mayfield Township home while her relatives took a trip. Though she had originally planned to spend the day of the murder at the house with her boyfriend Kenneth Grondin III, she later canceled on him. Police learned that her bank card was used several times after her death, with her vehicle abandoned near the home on King’s Mill Road.
The boyfriend, nicknamed KC and 19-years-old at the time of the murder, was charged and convicted of the crime, with the 2015 conviction later overturned in 2018. The now 30-year-old Grondin is still waiting to be retried on the charges, with it not being clear what will happen if Mobley is tried for the crime instead.
Mobley, who is known to be armed, was seen driving a white 2013 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup Truck with Utah “Navy Veteran” License Plate 10EA0. The truck has dark-tinted windows and taillights. It is believed he has been residing in his vehicle and may still be in the state of Utah.
Local dispatch centers throughout Utah and neighboring states have been made aware of the situation, with citizens told not to approach the man if they see him. If you have any information about the case or the suspect, please contact your local dispatch centers, 911, or law enforcement.
