With the first meeting of the 2023-2024 school year last Monday, the Sandusky Board of Education will be taking more steps forward for the new year as they begin two nights of superintendent interviews for their five candidates.

With the plan to hold interviews starting today, Monday, July 17 and into Tuesday, July 18, the board will be interviewing:

  • Bill Kalmar, former superintendent, now interim dean of students at Almont Public Schools;
  • Mike Seaman, Kingston High School’s principal;
  • Jeff Terpenning, Capac Public Schools superintendent;
  • Kurt Dennis, Bad Axe Public High School principal; and
  • Steve Wilson, Bronson Community Schools’ superintendent.

With Kalmar, Seaman and Terpenning scheduled for 6:00, 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. respectively on July 17, Dennis and Wilson will be interviewed the next day at 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. respectively. The board will officially select the district’s new superintendent on July 25th.

At last Monday’s meeting, the Sandusky School Board approved necessary district finance items, such as the textbook curriculums, the district’s sinking fund and elementary school staff development training. Also at the July 10 meeting, the board also heard an update on a possible school resource officer from Sandusky Police Chief Brett Lester, an item that will also be addressed by the Sandusky City Council at their meeting tonight, July 17.
