A Sanilac County man was arrested in Marlette Township for breaking and entering after leading police and citizens on a brief search through a swamp for him.

Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a call around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, reporting a man dressed in all black and a gray stocking cap breaking and entering a vehicle and shed. Sanilac County Sheriff deputies, along with the Marlette Police Department, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police and the Sanilac County Sheriff K-9 unit all responded to the 8000 block of Cargill Road in Marlette Township.

Setting up a perimeter on scene, the units were told that the suspect was seen crossing into Lapeer County and disappearing into a wooded, swampy area. While the caller did follow the suspect for as long as he could before losing sight, the caller did tell police that there was no way the suspect could come out of the woods without being seen.

The K-9 unit was dispatched into the woods, and with help of citizens in the area, the suspect was located and arrested. The suspect was initially taken to Marlette Regional Hospital to be checked for any medical conditions, and upon release, was lodged at the Sanilac County Jail.

He was arraigned on four misdemeanor charges this Monday and is being held on a $2000 cash or surety bond.
