(BRIDGEHAMPTON TWP) -- Sanilac County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched Monday evening around 5 p.m. to the 1000 block of Ruth Road between Custer and Snover Roads for a report of a personal injury accident. Initial investigation revealed that a 36-year-old Caro resident driving a semi-truck southbound on Ruth Road had pulled over onto the shoulder of the road to answer a call from dispatch. The shoulder was not wide enough to fit the entire truck and an unknown vehicle driving southbound on Ruth Road entered the northbound lane to pass. At the same time, 23-year-old Minden City resident Sally Hawley was driving northbound on Ruth Road with her mother, grandfather, and 5-month old son. Upon seeing the vehicle passing the semi-truck, Hawley abruptly slowed down to avoid a head on collision. A vehicle traveling behind Hawley, driven by 18-year-old Deckerville resident Corey Wagester, rear-ended the Hawley vehicle. Both cars spun around and ended up in the oncoming lane of traffic before coming to a stop. No serious injuries were reported and deputies are still looking for the vehicle that caused the collision by passing the semi-truck. Sanilac County Sheriff's deputies were assisted by the Carsonville and Deckerville Fire Departments, as well as Sanilac EMS. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident and all occupants were wearing their seatbelts.
