CPS School board receives audit presentation; looking to fill vacancy on the board

(CARSONVILLE-PORT SANILAC) — The Carsonville-Port Sanilac School Board last Thursday accepted the 2014-2015 audit as presented. The General Fund ended the school year with a fund balance of $510,933, which is a gain of $113,799 from the previous year. Auditors have recommended that the district have 10%-20% of expenditures as a General Fund balance. The 2014-2015 revenues were $4.3 million with expenditures at $4.2 million.
In other business, on a 5 to 1 vote, the board approved the high school class schedule/union agreement, which states that teachers can be assigned six preps for the 2015-2016 school year. In return, all teachers that are currently below step five on the pay scale as a result of multiple pay freezes, will be moved up to step five starting in the 2015-2016 school year.
Board Trustee Marvin Steeb submitted his resignation from the board effective immediately. The open position will be posted until Friday, October 23 at 3:30 p.m. Interviews with potential candidates will take place on Tuesday, October 27 and the seat will be filled on November 12.
