LOS ANGELES (AP) – Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s attempt to return to a church where protesters disrupted him has been scuttled after his plan was leaked online.
That’s according to the pastor of Holman United Methodist Church, who told the Los Angeles Times that “it was not strategic” to have Garcetti attend Sunday’s service.
On Monday of last week, Black Lives Matter protesters and other activists repeatedly interrupted Garcetti at a community meeting at the church and then surrounded the mayor’s car as he left.
Garcetti had hoped to improve his fraught relationship with the black communities of South Los Angeles at the forum. The activists defended their tactics, saying Garcetti never told them about the forum even though he promised to meet with them.
Garcetti’s spokeswoman said he looks forward to visiting the church again.
