(GREENLEAF TOWNSHIP) — Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies, acting on a tip of possible animal neglect, removed six adult female dogs and 28 puppies from a home in the 2000 block of Huron Line Road in Greenleaf Township Thursday. The investigation began on Monday when detectives met with concerned citizens regarding the animals. Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by Sanilac/Tuscola County Animal Control officers when the dogs were taken from the home. They are currently being held at the Sanilac County Humane Society. Humane Society Director Carol Schmidt says the smaller breed dogs were being examined Friday but appeared to be in “fairly good health.” Undersheriff Bradley Roff says the animals were temporarily removed because the owners didn’t appear to meet proper care standards. The case is being reviewed and warrant requests are being forwarded to the prosecutors office.
