PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The Game of Life is at the center of a legal dispute over who invented it and who is entitled to receive millions in royalties. The widow of Bill Markham says in a federal lawsuit that he has been denied his legacy of creating one of the most popular board games in history. She says another man, Reuben Klamer, took full credit for it, and Klamer and Hasbro cut her out of royalties. Klamer countersued Thursday, saying he’s the inventor and Markham’s widow has no right to royalties. A spokeswoman for Pawtucket, Rhode Island-based Hasbro didn’t return emails seeking comment. The game has sold more than 30 million copies and has been displayed at the Smithsonian Institution. Spinoffs include a TV game show, an iPhone app and gambling ventures.
