Greg Alexander appointed to Right to Farm Committee

(AREA) — Sanilac County Drain Commissioner Greg Alexander has been appointed to Michigan’s Right to Farm Generally Accepted Agricultural and Management Practices Committee, which performs an annual review process for the eight specific areas of on-farm production agriculture. The Site Selection Committee is chaired by a livestock expert from MSU, with members from Michigan Farm Bureau, Michigan Milk Producers Association, Michigan Pork Producers, Michigan Environmental Council, Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, as well as additional state, county, and township officials. The Michigan Right to Farm Act was enacted in 1981 to provide farmers with nuisance protection. This state law authorizes the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development to develop and adopt GAAMP’s for farms and farm operations in Michigan. These farm management practices are scientifically based and updated annually to utilize current technology promoting sound environmental stewardship on Michigan farms. Alexander was chosen against hundreds of possible Michigan candidates and will travel to Lansing to fulfill a vacancy in the county government seat.
