Soldier who lost four limbs aims to inspire others with book

(AREA) — A soldier who lost all four limbs during a 2012 explosion in Afghanistan is raising his family, delivering motivational speeches and helping other wounded veterans through his foundation. Add author to his list of accomplishments. People waited in line at a bookstore Tuesday as Travis Mills, formerly of Vassar, signed copies of his book, “Tough As They Come.” Signings also are planned in Texas, where he lived after leaving Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and in his native Michigan. Mills is one of five military personnel to survive losing all four limbs in Afghanistan or Iraq. He isn’t letting his injuries hold him back. He now lives in Manchester, Maine, with his wife and daughter. He’s raising money, giving lectures, and his foundation is overhauling a camp for wounded vets.
