WASHINGTON (AP) – The estimated 68,000 guests the White House expects to welcome this holiday season will be treated to a winter wonderland. They’ll be greeted at the East Wing entrance by a penguin family before proceeding down a hallway where the ceiling is covered in hanging paper snowflakes. And just outside the window, 56 snowmen and women – one for each state and territory – look on from what’s called the first lady’s garden. Michelle Obama gave military families the first look at this year’s decorations on Wednesday. Volunteers from across the country spent Thanksgiving weekend and early this week decorating the building. White House decorations also include the Blue Room tree, an 18 1/2-foot fir dedicated to military families. This year’s nearly 500-pound gingerbread White House is covered in dark chocolate.
