Explosive devices and illegal narcotics seized in raid

(LAPEER COUNTY) — Lapeer County Sheriff’s deputies seized drugs and explosive devices from a home in Lapeer Thursday night after being requested to assist Child Protective Services during a child welfare check. The owner of the home on Westbrooke Drive, a 38-year old man, refused to let authorities inside. Probable cause led to a search warrant and deputies seized marijuana and pills with a street value of about $26,000. Four “sparkler bombs” were located in a closet. They consist of metal sparklers attached together with black electrical tape. The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad responded and took possession of the explosive devices for proper disposal. Deputies say the homeowner and his friend had the devices for their own use and are not known to be connected to any organized group. The child at the residence was removed from the home and an investigation continues.
