Car rear-ends semi east of Sandusky

(CUSTER TOWNSHIP) — A 34-year-old Deckerville woman was injured in a car-semi accident Wednesday evening in Custer Township just east of Sandusky. Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies say Lori Luther was traveling west on M-46 when she was unable to stop and rear-ended a semi truck driven by 49-year-old Scott Pagel of Sandusky. Pagel was stopped on M-46 waiting to make a left-hand turn onto Orval Street when the accident occurred. The truck was pulling an unloaded flatbed trailer. Luther told police that she did not recognize that the truck was stopped and collided with it at a high rate of speed, causing extensive damage. The airbag in Luther’s vehicle deployed. She was transported to McKenzie Health System for treatment. Police say both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
