Imlay City man arrested for home invasion

(IMLAY TOWNSHIP) — A 27-year old Imlay City man was arrested early Friday morning following a home invasion at a residence on Imlay City Road in Imlay Township just before 2 a.m. Lapeer County Sheriff’s deputies say a 27-year old woman and 19-year old man contacted police after the break-in and informed them that the suspect broke in while they were sleeping and a physical fight ensued. The suspect had a prior relationship with the woman at the residence. Deputies learned that the suspect gained entry through a window and used pepper spray to wake the victims up. After the altercation, the suspect fled the scene. Donald Smith was taken into custody a short time later at his home, about a half mile away. He was arraigned Friday on charges of first degree home invasion and two counts of assault and battery. Smith was released from jail on a $10,000 PR bond and a no contact order was issued.
