Glenn Frey passes away in New York

NEW YORK (AP) – Glenn Frey has died. The Eagles say Frey passed away yesterday in New York of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia. He was 67. Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner were hired by Linda Ronstadt to be her backing band. They continued as a band and formed The Eagles, which became one of the top touring acts in the world. The Eagles’ greatest hits collection and their “Hotel California” album are among the best-selling albums ever. When the band broke up in 1980, Frey enjoyed a solo career with hits like “The Heat Is On,” “You Belong To The City” and “Smuggler’s Blues.” He also took on acting roles, appearing on TV in “Miami Vice” and “Nash Bridges” and on film in “Jerry Maguire.” The Eagles were supposed to be honored at the Kennedy Center Honors last month but it was postponed because of Frey’s health problems.
