(CUSTER TOWNSHIP) — A 29-year old Deckerville area man is facing charges after leaving the scene of a roll over crash late Wednesday night in Sanilac County’s Custer Township. Sheriff Garry Biniecki says a call came into dispatch just after 11:30 p.m. regarding a roll over crash at North Sandusky and Downington Roads. The caller advised that the driver was possibly pinned inside the 2004 Dodge pickup. Before emergency crews arrived, the driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, eastbound on Downington Road. The man fled into a wooded area and was tracked for about three miles by deputies and the Sanilac County K9 unit, with assistance from Sandusky Police and the Deckerville Fire Department’s thermal image camera. Authorities determined that the suspect got a ride for someone and a check of his residence showed he was not there. Deputies were eventually able to make contact with the Deckerville man and confirm he was not injured. Charges are being sought and alcohol is believed to be involved in the incident.
