NEW YORK (AP) – Thanks to a strong defense, the Denver Broncos dominated the Super Bowl on their way to a 24-10 win over the Carolina Panthers. There were also clear-cut winners in the other big contest of the night – the battle for the eyes of those watching the ads. One of the catchphrases likely to last longer than the champagne buzz Bronco fans are feeling is “puppymonkeybaby” – the ad for Mountain Dew Kickstart, featuring soda, juice and caffeine. An ad featuring just dogs – hot dogs and real ones – had a crew of dachshunds dressed like hot dogs running to meet Heinz condiments as Harry Nilsson’s classic “Without You” plays. The most jarring ads seemed to be the ones by pharmaceutical companies. People watching the game while scarfing down food had little stomach for the tormented intestines used to promote a medication to fight diarrhea.
