(SANILAC COUNTY) — The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners will rededicate the 100-year old Sanilac County Courthouse on Tuesday, April 12 at 60 West Sanilac Avenue in Sandusky. The public is invited to hear Jeff Pollock, Sanilac County Historical Village and Museum Director, present “Highlights of 100-Years” in the Circuit Courtroom from 1:30-3:30 p.m. and take a historical tour of the building beginning at 2 p.m. A Rededication Ceremony is planned for 4 p.m. on the courthouse lawn with refreshments to follow. Fire completely destroyed the original Sanilac County Courthouse on January 17, 1915. A new building was approved by voters during the April election following the fire. It took only 9-months to build the new courthouse. The cornerstone was laid on August 6, 1915 and the building was officially turned over to the Board of Supervisors on April 14, 1916. Several changes have taken place over the years, but the Register of Deeds, County Clerk, County Treasurer, Jury Room, Circuit Courtroom and Circuit Court Offices remain in their original location.
