(LAPEER) — A Michigan judge who was suspended while awaiting trial on embezzlement charges is expected to return to the bench after reaching an agreement to resolve the case. Lapeer County Circuit Judge Byron Konschuh was charged in 2014 with embezzling about $4,000 while serving as the county prosecutor. He denied stealing the money. Konschuh’s lawyer Tom Pabst says embezzlement charges were dropped this week in an agreement with prosecutors. As part of the deal, Konschuh pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor and received a delayed sentence. Pabst says Konschuh’s record will be cleared after court costs and other costs are paid. State police handled the investigation. Prosecutors had said he used money from a bad-check recovery program to pay for office meals and snacks.
