Local Communities awarded SAW Grants

(AREA) — Several local communities have been awarded the third round of SAW Grants through the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality’s Stormwater, Asset Management and Wastewater Program initiative. The grants total over $100 million. The village of Peck will benefit from the state program and develop a Wastewater Asset Management and Stormwater Asset Management Plan with a $406,700 grant. Peck received a 100 percent grant worth $242,000 for Wastewater Asset Management and a 90 percent grant worth $183,000 with an $18,300 local match for the development of a Stormwater Asset Management Plan. This spring, workers will begin on-site manhole inspections and crews will be cleaning and televising the storm sewer and sanitary sewer pipelines. A total of 133 municipalities were chosen by a lottery to receive a portion of the $100 million available in funding. Other local communities that were selected include the cities of St. Clair, Croswell, Vassar, and Yale; and the villages of Ubly, Sebewaing, Akron, Mayville, Fairgrove and Capac.
