Holly High School’s marching band wins anthem contest

DETROIT (AP) – Holly High School’s marching band has won the chance to perform at Comerica Park during one of the Tigers first home games of the season. Comerica Bank hosted the “March the Park” national anthem contest that offered the winning band a $5,000 grant to support its program and 130 tickets to the April 9 game. The band from the school in Oakland County also gets the opportunity to perform the anthem. The Lincoln High School marching band finished in second place followed by Roosevelt High School’s Wyandotte Marching Chiefs. Bands in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Livingston counties were eligible to enter and they submitted videos of national anthem performances. A panel of judges narrowed down the submissions. A public online vote was held to pick the winner.
