HARRISVILLE, Mich. (AP) – Officials say another case of bovine tuberculosis has been detected in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula. The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development say Monday the case recently was confirmed in a medium-sized beef cattle herd in Alcona County. It’s also the 65th cattle herd found to carry the illness since 1998. A meeting for area cattle producers is scheduled for May 24. State officials say that the case was confirmed during testing as part of an investigation after the diagnosis was made from the 64th herd in Oscoda County. Bovine TB is an infectious disease that primarily affects cattle but can be spread between different mammals. Many whitetail deer in northeastern Michigan are carriers.
