Sanilac County Community Foundation Scholarship Recipients

(AREA) — The Sanilac County Community Foundation has awarded several scholarships to graduating seniors in the Thumb. This year’s recipients of the Kim Rhead Leadership Scholarship is Sandusky graduate Daniel Hale and Marlette graduate Hunter McGinnis. Hale has and continues to help on the family’s diverse livestock and crop farm and plans to attend Michigan State University in the fall to study Agribusiness. McGinnis was Salutatorian at Marlette Schools and was involved in many academic and extra-curricular activities during his high school career. He plan to pursue a degree in criminal justice and will attend both Delta College and Ferris State University. The Kim Rhead Leadership Scholarship was established in 1999. Kim Rhead is a former state legislator from the 83rd District who now works in Lansing as a legislative and government affairs consultant.
Hunter McGinnis is also the recipient of the Isaac “Ike” Selick Law Enforcement Scholarship, which was established in Ike’s memory to give students pursuing a career in law enforcement the chance to achieve their dreams. Ike Selick retired as a Detective Sergeant with the Detroit Police Department.
Sandusky graduate Justin Miller was awarded the Mark S. Hund Memorial Scholarship. Justin maintained a high GPA while participating in sports, volunteering, and working two jobs outside of school. He plans to attend Oakland University where he will pursue a degree in accounting and finance. The Mark S. Hund Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Mark, a long time principal of Sandusky High School.
