(SANILAC COUNTY) — A total of $17,350 in grants have been awarded to several non-profit organizations in the Thumb. The grants were announced during the Sanilac County Community Foundation’s June meeting. Heaven Sent’s funding will be used toward food distribution. The Shabbona Outreach Baby Pantry will use their grant dollars for diapers and formula. Sandusky Community Schools received a grant for food distribution and another for building visitor bleachers on the athletic field. The Croswell Lions Club received a grant to be used towards baseball diamond renovations. The grant funding for the Suicide Prevention Committee will be used for the “Bring Light to Darkness & Suicide Prevention Walk.” The Peck Summer League plans to use their grant funding to install electrical power to Cook Park. The Blue Water Folk Society’s grant will be used for the Community Involvement Track for Thumbfest. Many will benefit from the funding provided to the Croswell Food Truck for the purchase of food. Sanilac County Great Start Collaborative’s funding is going toward the Great Start Preschool Scholarship Program. Other organizations that received funding include the Bluewater Thumb Youth for Christ, which will purchase a new furnace, the Peck School Weekend Food Program, Marlette Elementary’s “Hub,” and the Friends of the Thumb Octagon Barn, which plans to use the funding for Phase 3 of the Thumb Quilt Trail. The grants were provided through Michigan Health Grant, the Youth Advisory Council, and the Sanilac County Community Foundation Discretionary Fund.
