Former Meijer employee sues over breast pumping dispute

(SWARTZ CREEK) — A former Meijer employee has sued the Midwest retailer saying it failed to accommodate her need to pump as a breastfeeding mother. Rachel Keesling of Lapeer says there wasn’t a place for her to express her milk at the Swartz Creek store near Flint, so she had to use a bathroom and the store’s computer server room, which she later learned was monitored by a surveillance camera. Reports say the lawsuit filed last month in Genesee County Circuit Court seeks more than $25,000. Allegations include sex discrimination, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress. A Meijer spokesman says the Grand Rapids-based company doesn’t comment on pending litigation. Documents say Keesling started working at the store in 2013 when she had a 3-month-old baby.
