Historic New Hampshire general store sold at auction

BATH, N.H. (AP) – A historic general store and tourist attraction in New Hampshire that closed earlier this year has been sold at auction for $235,000. The Brick Store in Bath was built in the late 1700s or early 1800s. It closed after several years of financial hardship. Auctioneer Paul McInnis says the property was sold to a local investor Wednesday. There were six registered bidders. About 100 people attended. Further details on the investor and plans for the property weren’t immediately available. The store is believed to be one of the oldest continually operated general stores in America. There’s also a gift shop and a 1950s-style ice cream shop on the property, along with space formerly used as an art studio and apartment. The assessed real estate value was listed at $326,400.
