PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Eliezer Alvarez hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, driving in Craig Aikin with the go-ahead run, as the Peoria Chiefs defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 1-0 in the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday. Aikin scored after he reached base on a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and then went to third on an out. Gerwuins Velazco (2-1) got the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Lansing starter Jordan Romano (1-1) took the loss in the Midwest League game. Tyler Bray retired the side in order for his sixth save of the season. The Lugnuts were held scoreless for the seventh time this season, while the Chiefs’ staff recorded their seventh shutout of the year. The Chiefs swept both games of the doubleheader after winning the first game 3-2 with Carlos Torres scoring what would prove to be the winning run in the seventh inning.
