(ELK TOWNSHIP) — Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed two people Monday morning around 9:10 a.m. at the intersection of M-19 and Marlette Road in Elk Township. Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki says the investigation showed that a vehicle traveling east on Marlette Road failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with a southbound vehicle. The driver of the eastbound vehicle, 78-year old Holly Jennings Wolfe of Burtchville, was pronounced dead at McKenzie Hospital. The southbound vehicle was driven by 68-year old Susan Samson of Sandusky. Her passenger, 89-year old Arlette Klohn, also from Sandusky, was pronounced dead at the scene. Samson was taken by Flight Care to Hurley Medical Center in Flint for treatment. Deputies say both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash; however, Klohn was not. Alcohol was not a factor. The Sandusky and Elk Township Fire Departments assisted at the scene using their Jaws of Life. Sheriff Garry Biniecki would like to publicly thank two employees of Blue Flame Propane of Lexington who assisted rescuers at scene the accident by using their vehicle’s winch to help stabilize one of the vehicle’s while fire crews were working to extricate the victims.
