MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (AP) – More than half of the boats in the annual Port Huron to Mackinac Island sailboat race on Lake Huron have crossed the finish line. Race organizers say that of the 214 vessels that started the race Saturday organized by Detroit’s Bayview Yacht Club about 120 finished as of early Monday. They say the last boats are expected to cross the finish by early Tuesday. The Arete, owned by Rick Warner of Marine City, was the first across Sunday. The Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinac Race says the multi-hulled sailboat covered the Cove Island Course in 21 hours, 44 minutes, 58 seconds, breaking the mark of 23:33:51 it set last year. Some boats take the Cove Island Course and some take the shorter Shore Course. Winners are based on a handicapping system.
