Sandusky grad receives $8,000 college scholarship

(AREA) — All of those nickels, dimes and quarters placed into the canisters at your local McDonald’s restaurants…they’re helping to fuel ten, $8,000 college scholarships for area graduates, including Rosie Abraham, a Sandusky graduate. Rosie was selected from 200 applicants for outstanding academic achievement, community involvement and financial need from the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Outstate Michigan. The non-profit organization supports programs and efforts which improve the health and well-being of children from birth through age 18. The canister funds, which collect approximately $550,000 annually from McDonald’s restaurants throughout Michigan, fund the Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholars program. Each graduate will receive $2,000 a year for 4-years at a college of their choice. Rosie Abraham maintained a 3.78 GPA at Sandusky High School, was a member of the National Honor Society, student council and yearbook staff while also volunteering in her community. Rosie is headed to Saginaw Valley State University this fall where she plans to pursue a career in forensic science.
