(FAIRHAVEN TOWNSHIP) — Authorities rescued a fatigued boater clinging to his boat in the rain Saturday evening about a 1/2 mile off of the Geiger Road Public Access in Huron County’s Fairhaven Township. The incident started when the 54-year old Caro man’s 16′ foot boat had overheated and quit. Also inside the boat was the man’s 9-year old son, 45-year old brother from Deckerville, his 19-year old nephew, also from Deckerville. Before deputies arrived, the 45-year old Deckerville man decided to swim to shore without a life jacket and made it. The 19-year old jumped in the water and attempted to swim to shore, but started having trouble. The Caro man then went into the water and helped his nephew get back into the boat, but got tired and hung onto the side of the boat until the Sheriff’s Department airboat and crew arrived. The Caro man, his son, and nephew were all taken back to shore by deputies and a good samaritan and checked by awaiting ambulance personnel.
