Lansing tops W. Michigan 4-2

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (AP) — Lane Thomas singled three times, and Ryan Borucki hurled five scoreless innings as the Lansing Lugnuts beat the West Michigan Whitecaps 4-2 on Thursday. West Michigan had a runner on first in the bottom of the ninth, but Jose Azocar flew out to end the game. Borucki (8-3) picked up the win after he struck out five and walked three while allowing one hit. Lansing got on the board first in the third inning when Ryan Hissey hit a two-run triple and then scored on a single by Thomas. After Lansing added a run in the sixth when Thomas scored on a double play, the Whitecaps cut into the deficit in the ninth inning when Brett Pirtle hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Arvicent Perez. Sandy Baez (6-9) went four innings, allowing three runs and six hits in the Midwest League game. He also struck out six and walked two. Lansing improved to 9-3 against West Michigan this season.
