(EAST CHINA TOWNSHIP) — A utility says workers are assessing damage and assisting with repairs after a massive fire last week at a Michigan power plant. Detroit-based DTE Energy Co. says its St. Clair Power Plant in East China Township remains shut down Tuesday and there’s no update on when it will resume generating electricity. Firefighters on Friday extinguished the blaze that was reported about 6:30 p.m. Thursday and sent smoke into the air that was visible for miles. The fire started in a coal-fired generating unit and no one was injured. Crews were called to the plant as thick, billowing black and gray smoke rose from the structure. Employees were safely evacuated from the plant, located along the St. Clair River along the U.S. border with Canada.
