(TUSCOLA COUNTY) — Authorities in Tuscola County are warning residents of scams that have been reported in the county and surrounding areas. The one pertaining to the IRS calling people saying they owe back taxes is still going on. Remember, the IRS does not contact anyone over the phone in reference to taxes. The second phone scam seems to be more localized. Someone is using a phone number with a local area code and is asking residents if they are paying high credit card rates in an attempt to obtain credit card information. Authorities warn that this is in fact a scam and to never give out personal information over the phone. Deputies are also working on the high number of larceny of vehicle complaints and breaking and entering cases in the southern end of Tuscola County. Residents are asked to keep vehicles and doors to homes and garages locked. Suspicious behavior should be reported to police immediately.
