(PORT SANILAC) — Four people were rescued from a capsized boat in Lake Huron waters Saturday night. Sanilac Central Dispatch received the 9-1-1 call just after 8 p.m. stating that the 17-foot power boat with four people aboard had started taking on water. They were quickly instructed to put life jackets on and a short time later, the caller stated that the boat was going down and was about to sink before the connection was lost. Deputies responded in the county’s patrol boat and located the four people clinging to the overturned boat in about 25 feet of water, about a mile and a half northeast of Port Sanilac. Deputies battled strong waves and winds while getting all four into the patrol boat safely. The boat’s operator, 65-year old Patrick Echlin of Marlette, told deputies that the water started to enter the boat near the transom and outdrive, when it eventually took on enough water to capsize. The other occupants of the boat were Echlin’s wife Cheryl and their daughter Dawn Gee and her 10-year old son, both of Snover. All four were treated and released.
