(ALGONAC) — Fast action on the part of a pair of St. Clair County Sheriff’s Deputies is credited with saving an elderly woman’s life Tuesday night. Deputies were called to the 100 block of North Park Street in Algonac shortly before midnight Tuesday on a report of a woman yelling for help from a canal. When deputies arrived, they found the 92-year old woman standing in about four feet of water in the canal. She was unable to lift herself over the seawall to climb to safety. Deputy Mike Pink jumped into the water, wrapped his arms around the woman’s waist, and lifted her Deputy Jason Sklba, who was standing on the seawall. Once she was out of the water, the woman was taken to a neighbor’s house to warm up before being transported by Tri-Hospital EMS to St. John’s River District Hospital for observation. She told deputies that she had gone for a walk and had somehow eneded up in the water, but wasn’t sure how. Luckily, neighbors heard her calls for help and called 911.
