(LAPEER) — A Lapeer man has died after being struck by two vehicles early Sunday morning in Lapeer Township. Sheriff deputies say a Dodge Avenger, driven by 43-year old Jason Morell of Lapeer, was heading south on Clark Road shortly before 6:00 a.m. when he observed 44-year old David Houghtaling walking along the east side of the roadway and waving both of his arms. As Morell approached, he observed Houghtaling walking into the roadway waving his arms before allegedly running into the driver’s side of Morell’s vehicle. The impact knocked Houghtaling to the ground in the northbound lane. As Morell pulled over to call 911, a Nissan Murano driven by 20-year old Rafi Salim of Farmingon Hills struck Houghtaling a second time. He was transported to McLaren Lapeer Hospital and pronounced dead. Both Morrell and Salim are cooperating in the investigation, and alcohol involvement on their behalf has been ruled out. The incident remains under investigation.
