Accident claims life of Mayville man

(Vassar Twp.) – Troopers from the Michigan State Police Caro Post are investigating an accident that claimed the life of a 37 year old Mayville man Monday night. According to police, the man was standing in the middle of the west bound lane of W. Saginaw Rd., at the intersection of Caine Rd. in Vassar Township shortly after 7 p.m. They said he was wearing dark clothing while in the roadway of the unlit intersection. He was struck and killed by a west bound vehicle driven by a 42 year old Bay City man who sustained minor injuries in the accident. Troopers said alcohol was not believed to have been a factor with the driver, but it is suspected to be a factor with the pedestrian. Assisting at the scene were the Vassar fire department, Vassar police department and Vassar MMR. The accident remains under investigation.
