(Kenockee Township) – A 19-year old Marine City man was killed in a two-vehicle, head-on crash late Friday in an accident involving an ambulance transporting a patient.According to the St. Clair County Sheriff department, Tyler Krietler was driving his vehicle eastbound on Avoca Road, just west of Avoca around 5:15 p.m. when police say he crossed the center line and struck the Tri-Hospital EMS ambulance head on.
Two Tri-Hospital EMS employees, and the patient they were transporting, were injured in the accident. The collision caused the ambulance to overturn, landing on its roof, according to sources. Despite their injuries, the EMS workers were still able to provide assistance to victims until other emergency personnel arrived on the scene.
Deputy Steve Campau said it is unknown at this time why the Kreitler vehicle crossed the center line. The roadway was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash. No other information has been made available.
