Secure mailboxes for snowplowing season

County snowplow trucks are ready to go
County snowplow trucks are ready to go

The Sanilac County Road Commission is urging residents to shake their mailboxes, in preparation for the upcoming snowplowing season.
Officials cautioned residents over time, mailbox posts may become rotted or wobbly and not be able to withstand the force of snow being plowed by the county trucks. Residents are responsible for ensuring a mailbox is firmly in place.
There are some provisions for replacement of mailboxes on state and county roads according to policy. However, road agencies are not responsible for mailbox damage caused by standard snow removal operations.
Damage to posts and receptacles can often be prevented by proper routine maintenance.
