(Flynn Township) – Firefighters from four departments responded to a structure fire Monday morning around 9:30 a.m. on Maple Valley Road, just north of Peck Road near Brown City. According to Brown City Fire Chief Keith Redlin, the mobile home had a bedroom closet filling with smoke and some flames were visible when firefighters arrived. He said the home had working smoke alarms, alerting the homeowner to the fire.
A woman in the home located several family pets and all escaped the blaze. Redlin said a quick response by firefighters led to the house sustaining only minor damage but was serious enough that family members required assistance from the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Brown City fire department was assisted by departments from Marlette, Elk Township and Speaker Township.
