Sanilac County to recount votes Sunday

Counties statewide have finally received the green light to conduct the Presidential recount requested by Green Party candidate Jill Stein. Larger counties including Wayne, Oakland and Macomb began their recounts today at noon. According to the State schedule, St. Clair County will begin their work on Thursday, Tuscola will meet on Friday, Huron will work on Saturday while Sanilac and Lapeer counties will do their recount Sunday.
Sanilac County workers will gather at the Emergency Operations Center at 8:30 a.m. to count more than 19,000 ballots. Clerk Denis McGuire said 10 teams of two workers each will be paid $12 per hour with the county receiving $125 per precinct to help cover costs.
Before recounts begin, State Board of Canvassers will be on hand to determine how many of the precincts’ ballot containers are properly sealed and can be recounted. All recount work must be completed by December 13th, according to State Election law.
