An offer from a cell tower company that currently has a lease with the city fell on deaf ears at the Brown City council meeting Monday night. The company offered to pay a lump sum of $253,000, instead of their monthly lease payments of $1,520. The city’s current lease agreement with SBA Cell Tower runs through 2049 and would generate over $600,000 plus any percentage increases.
Had the city accepted the offer, City Manager Clint Holmes said they would have lost over $620,000. Holmes said if the city was strapped for cash, council may have considered it. However, no one on council thought it was worth considering. The tower was constructed on the north side of Brown City, near Maple Valley Road, nearly 20 years ago.
In other council news, Homes acknowledged the work of the DPW staff during last weekend’s snowstorm, saying they worked long hard hours in getting city streets plowed and making roads passable as residents headed out to work Monday morning. The city continues to pile snow from Main St in the middle of the road and clears the piles from the roadway after the local secondary streets have been plowed. Holmes said he was not ware of any problems being reported by residents as a result of the storm.
Prior to the meeting, Mayor Jule Miller and council members Patricia Jacobson, Ross McIvor. William Walters, Christine Lee, Gerald Kosal and Alecia took the Oath of Office. According to Holmes, all committees are filled, something he says is a testament to those involved, wanting to serve their community.
