Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Wall coming to Sandusky

The Moving Wall – Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be coming to Sandusky in May, thanks to the efforts of students from Sandusky high school and many others. Three students made a presentation to the Sandusky city council Monday night, laying out the plan. Spokesperson Senior Krysten Franzel told council details of the event, saying work has been on-going for the past several months. Sandusky students also spearheaded a drive to fill the Courthouse lawn with over 200 flags that are proudly flown for special occasions and holidays.
The Sandusky visit of the Memorial Wall is just one of 20 nation wide this year. The wall will make it’s appearance in Sandusky over the Memorial Day weekend, for five days, located on the Courthouse lawn and open 24 hours a day. The traveling memorial has been displayed across the United States since 1984 and consists of two 126-foot panels.
Project Advisor, and high school teacher, George Lasecki said the kids have worked hard to make this possible for the area. The students told council they intend to hold two major fundraisers and seek donations to help pay for the event. Lasecki said high school students have put their hearts into these projects and they have developed a new appreciation for veterans of all ages.
