The Sandusky city council held a brief session Tuesday evening in their first meeting of the new year. City Manager Dave Faber said work still remains on the Elk Street project and a portion of the remaining retainage monies will be held until full restoration and a punch list has been completed. Council approved a payment of nearly $28,000 that was being held as retainage and will pay the remaining $9,300 when the project is complete.
In his monthly report, Police Chief Brett Lester said he is pleased with the work of the blight officer and the response it has generated. He said, since hiring civilian officer Chris Dreiling last August, 99 cases of blight have been handled and just four have made it to district court for resolution.
Lester said the outstanding cases are located on South Fulton Street, two cases on North Morse Street and one on Minden Street. Lester said blight will continue to be closely monitored citywide in an attempt to avoid further issues.
